Did Someone Say Sciatica?
November 28, 2011
One of my favorite MELT Instructors Talie Melnyk asked me a question about sciatica on our MELT Forum. Sciatica is frequently misdiagnosed, under treated and even ignored until the pain is so severe standing and walking are almost unbearable.
For many, although they have symptoms that seem similar to sciatica, they are actually issues of the lumbar spine. If you think you have sciatica you should see your doctor and rule out a herniation or bulging disc before you waste your time with standard treatments.
There is a great site with fantastic articles called "Dynamic Chiropractic" that I would recommend to anyone looking for some information and good articles on this common issue as well as many others.
There was a great article on SCIATICA or PSEUDOSCIATICA that I enjoyed reading. Similar in concept, my worry with many people who tell me they have sciatica actually don't have sciatica but a disc issue, this article discusses that in more detail.
I like Ray Aronow, MA, DPM, DC from Sebastopol, CA and how he describes this issue. He even talks about how often bowel issues can cause sciatica. I've had client's who had so much poop in their intestines that with just a single session to mobilize the colon and restore movement to the surrounding tissues instantly made their sciatic issues disappear. Goes to show you that our digestion and eating behavior can also have a relationship to our alignment and structure.
I gave Talie a MELT Map that I often use with my sciatic client's to get their body back on track. If you have sciatica, you may want to contact Talie for a session now that she has the MELT recipe for restoring the body and eliminating the constant ache it can cause.
Until then, I hope those of you "yeah-but-ers" will consider eliminating your ass pain once and for all. MELT can help you so stay tuned!
