Corp-PHIT Experience

April 5, 2011

It's time that all large corporations offered their employees an innovative group program that could become a solution to maintaining a pain free, active lifestyle for improved performance, decreased absenteeism, and increased unity in the workforce.

Many employers and employees are now viewing "in-house corporate wellness" as the new essential component to their compensation plans. Traditional means of providing this benefit are costly.

This has always been a model that, if every I had free time from simply being the CEO of a budding wellness company and face of the MELT Method, I would want to spearhead. Finally, I can say, I've found the spear who has already build a killer corporate model and is helping people - many at a time in the corporate world.

While I was in San Diego, I met Paul (aka Pablo) Healing (yes, that is actually his last name...), owner of PHIT GROUP, an innovative all-inclusive traveling trainer like no other. Paul's PHIT Truck travels around San Diego only to park at facilities like DJO Global for afternoon out-door PHITness Sessions.

DJO is an impressive company with the mission of "enabling people to live their lives to the fullest by providing intelligent medical devices and services. We value an open dialogue with our customers to gather insights that guide our innovations and continuous improvement." Got to love that philosophy! It's no wonder they would seek out ways to help their own employees stay active and fit while working in their facility.

Paul and his "CORP-PHIT"  program can train up to 100 employees in a single session with its team-style training, challenging them to exercise together in a fun, innovative, and efficient way outdoors!

"Employees spend about 50% of their waking hours at work, so most will not engage in fitness programs unless you bring it right to them – at work and that's just what I do." Paul said to me when he talked about why the corporate world caught his eye.  The PHIT Truck is a completely mobile fitness facility and brings group outdoor fitness-to-wellness programming right to the corporate doorstep at lunch. Each training session is unique and is able to meet participants where they are at physically.

Paul is now in the process of become MELT trained so he can add this program to teh corporate model! I am psyched because MELT offers an in-door, at your desk addition to self-care.

I got to not only MELT the DJO staff during two packed lunch time hand and foot demo sessions, I also got to experience the PHIT Group Saturday Session - one of Paul's open sessions he does at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club and a few parks in the area. It's not just the equipment he uses that makes his PHIT concept so fun, it's the obstacle based stations he creates and the language of PHIT that hold his program so thoughtful and unique. From what he calls The Swamp of Death to the Starfish and The Under Over that he yells out for small groups in each station to tackle before moving to the next challenge 2 minutes later. The "team work" air he sets and his undying focus to details is uncanny. It's like he has eyes in the back of his head running around from station to station making sure form is as good as it can be to making sure people are doing what they are supposed to be doing... TOGETHER! And if they aren't, well, they suddenly disappears around the building for a 1/4 run until they "learn to work together". Classic.

Healthy employees equate to better performance, and a more profitable business. Investing a small amount to help keep your staff healthy and PHIT will help ensure the future success of your company. I'm excited to see how Paul brings MELT to the corporate world. I can already see him stuffing a few MELT rollers and piles of balls into his PHIT Truck for his next session! Way to go Paul! Thanks for making fitness PHUN!
