Cameron Diaz
July 4, 2011
So tonight I went with 8 of my brother's friends and his pregnant wife, Betsy to their most frequented dinner spot, Bobby Vans in Bridge Hampton. The food here by the way is OFF THE HOOK. I don't care how many times you have had sautee'd mushrooms, medium rare t-bone steak, crab salad, or sea bass, BV seems to do it the best.
When we first walked in, I immediately saw Alex Rodriguez. Last year, I saw him outside the spin room at Reebok, Sports Club, NY. I commented to some of the students that he was there and a few said I should ask him to take class. So of course... I did. And he came into my Rhythm Ride class. I set him up on his bike and as I told him how to use the bike properly, I kindly, and sincerely said to him, "This class is as hard as you can make it. It's up to you how hard you work. However, this group is pretty competitive so I'm mentioning up front if you feel you have to leave early, it's fine. Most first timers don't last for a en
tire class..."
So from there, I had him. He did of course finish the class. And he is FIT. Well this year he is even more fit than last year. He looks strong, his batting average is up from last year and he just happened to be with one of my favorite celebrities, Cameron Diaz.
Once I saw her I mentioned it to my sister-in-law which then became a highlight of the night. When we sat down I introduced myself to Alex and we talked for a few minutes about his taking my class. I also mentioned to Cameron I think she's freaking awesome. (I did not mention the surf scar on my heel though... which is totally healed if anyone is curious).
During dinner, they all got up to leave and Alex approached me and asked me more about when I teach class and such. But my favorite part was saying to Camron that frequently people ask me how to get their arms to look like her arms. Although I also love Uma Thurman, Cameron I think is a "my generation" female superhero of our times. She has yet to do her best work yet she's done amazing work. And by the way, she is just a beautiful young lady in person. I'd even venture to say she's normal. On the way out I saw her swat Alex's butt in a casual, playful way. They are just like any other people you would meet. Nice, curious, and enjoying good food. See, celebrities are people too.
The punchline is that today I started out my day being given the though "Be satisfied with what you have today before you get stressed about what you need to acomplish tomorrow. This is the first step to appreciating the -richness of the yolk-... " this was all part of a biblical metaphor I heard this morning. But it seems to fit in just perfectly to this entire day.
Wouldn't it be a typical irony that I gave all of my business cards away at a bar-be-cue I was invited to this afternoon, so when Alex asked for mine... I had none to give. Typical to say the least. So Heidi and Darren will have to PR me into their lives. It seems only fitting for what today brought about.
When we returned back to my brother's place we lit off fireworks, ate some homemade gellato, and some Carvel Icecream cake for Mark Johnson's birthday.
Happy 4th of July to us all. Happy to have independence... and people to share it with. Be satisfied with what you have today, and be excited to see what you can acomplish and achieve tomorrow.
